Plan my trip

Stone TownThe old heart of Zanzibar: coral-stone houses, carved doors, markets and a seafront where the whole town comes out at sunset. Mikumi National ParkOpen floodplains full of animals, close enough to Zanzibar for a day safari by plane or an overland adventure by ferry and train. Nyerere National ParkAfrica's biggest national park, cut through by the Rufiji River: boat safaris, walking safaris and wild dogs, a short flight from Zanzibar. SerengetiEndless plains, the Great Migration and more big cats than almost anywhere — two hours from Zanzibar by plane. Ngorongoro CraterA volcanic crater full of wildlife and one of the best places in Africa to see black rhino. Nungwi & Kendwa beachesThe north coast: deep water you can swim in at any tide, dhow builders on the beach and the best sunsets on the island. Paje & Jambiani beachesThe east coast: a huge lagoon that empties at low tide, seaweed farms, kitesurfers and villages that still live by the sea.
