Hadzabe & Datoga Tribe Visit

Activity Half or full day Private
Overview

At Lake Eyasi, meet the Hadzabe — one of Africa's last hunter-gatherer peoples — and the Datoga, skilled farmers and craftspeople.

The Hadzabe live around Lake Eyasi, just south of the Ngorongoro Highlands; the Datoga and Mbulu tribes also call this region home. A cultural visit lets you meet the Hadzabe and the Datoga and learn about their traditional lifestyles and how they live with the land.

The Hadzabe are one of Africa’s oldest peoples and have kept a hunter-gatherer way of life, never turning to farming. The Datoga are skilled farmers and craftspeople who keep goats, sheep, donkeys and chickens — but cattle matter most, and every part of the animal serves a purpose: meat, fat, blood, milk, hide, horns, tendons and dung. A fascinating look at the diversity of human traditions.
